Comparison
DreamDo vs a Notion goal template
Both can hold a plan. Only one of them writes it. Here is the honest version of the difference, including the parts where a Notion template is the better choice.
Where a Notion template wins
It is free, and it is yours
No subscription, no vendor. If keeping full ownership of your system matters to you, that is a real argument and DreamDo does not have an answer to it.
It bends to any shape
Notion will model whatever you can imagine. DreamDo has one opinion about what a plan is — phases, milestones, tasks — and you work inside it.
Everything lives together
Notes, references, databases and the plan in one place. DreamDo plans; it is not where your research goes.
Where the template runs out
It starts empty
A template is a structure waiting for a plan you still have to write. Deciding what week nine should contain is the hard part, and the template does not help with it.
It cannot re-sequence
Miss a fortnight and a static template shows you a fortnight of overdue rows. Fixing it is manual, so most people stop opening it instead.
Maintaining the system becomes the hobby
The customisability that makes Notion powerful is also a way to spend Sunday improving your tracker instead of doing the thing it tracks.
Which to pick
If you like building your own system and you already know what your plan should be, use a Notion template. It is free and it will do the job.
If the part you get stuck on is deciding the sequence — and staying on it after a bad week — that is the specific thing DreamDo is for. Your first roadmap is free, so the comparison costs nothing to settle for yourself.
Common questions
Is Notion worse than DreamDo?
No — it is a different tool. Notion is a workspace you shape yourself, and it is very good at that. DreamDo is narrower: it writes a plan and keeps it current. If you enjoy designing your own system, Notion is the better answer.
Can I use both?
Plenty of people would. Notion for notes and reference, DreamDo for the sequencing and the daily task. They are not competing for the same job.
What does DreamDo do that a template cannot?
Two things. It produces the plan from a sentence, so you are not filling in an empty structure. And it re-dates the plan when you fall behind, which a static template cannot do because it does not know what you missed.
What does a Notion template do better?
It is free, it is infinitely customisable, and it belongs to you with no subscription. It also handles everything alongside the plan — notes, references, databases — which DreamDo deliberately does not.
